A small box of surprise gifts – The Loft Online

I have been fortunate to be chosen to write a product review for a small business – The Loft Online. This a small online boutique selling a range of cute little gifts.

But why would Mummy of a Square Peg be writing about a gift shop? Well not only am I a mother of a child with autism, I have another chid who is 8 and I’m also a full time secondary school teacher with a husband who works the night shift, so needless to say life is pretty darn busy all of the time. Very recently this all took it’s toll on me, I wasn’t doing anything for myself so eventually I had nothing left to give. So now I make sure I set aside some time for me to do some things that I love and this is where The Loft Online come in.

They sent me a surprise parcel with some gifts in from their online shop. Just receiving a surprise parcel makes you feel special so already I was feeling good. There was a total of 9 little gifts in….wax melts, bath bombs, a hanging plaque and two little unicorn ornaments.

I love things like scented candles and reed diffusers etc but I’d never used wax melts before so I was really excited to try them out. The first thing I had to do was to buy a wax burner, I’m sure I used to have one but couldn’t find it anywhere. Before kids I used to love burning essential oils and incense sticks but since having kids I haven’t done any of that mainly because I was worried that the kids would drink the oil or eat the incense sticks etc. So receiving the wax melts reminded me how much I used to love that sort of thing so I couldn’t wait to get started.

The wax melts were by Emily Victoria candles and they all have really cute names – Belle, Pixie Potion, Lemon Meringue and Toasted Marshmallow. They are all very sweet smells and quickly filled the room with a strong scent. My favourite would have to be Lemon Meringue aside from the fact that it’s my favourite dessert the smell is exactly lemon meringue not just lemon and not just meringue but the exact combination leaves me dreaming of Lemon Meringue Pie.

Next up to try was the bath bomb. I had a sniff of the packet, then I looked at the name and it was called Monkey Farts haha haha! I very much doubt that monkey farts smell as nice as that although I must admit I’ve not been that close to a monkey to find out. So I drop it in my bath and it starts fizzing yellow, I’m stood wandering what’s going to happen, am I going to bathe in pale yellow bath water?….Then when we get to the core of Monkey Farts, it starts fizzing out bright blue and bright green….Yes I am now going to be bathing in a luminous green bath along the shade of ectoplasm! When I visualise myself relaxing in the bath it’s generally not in a bright green one but a Monkey Farts bath bomb is a lot of fun so it made me smile.

It transpires that the Unicorn ornaments are in fact ceramic Salt and Pepper shakers which made me laugh. I wouldn’t have them out for everyday use but definitely for a dinner party or a special occasion as they will provide a talking point.

The final little gift is a white heart shaped hanging plaque with the words ‘Forever my Mother, always my friend.’ Such a lovely little gift for a mother to be given. The colours are white and grey so the colour scheme will go in any house.
